The Private Snafu Cartoon Series From WWII

commentary by Roger Erickson

They're actually pretty good.

Given the sheer scale of our distributed organizational tasks today, I have to think it would do far more good than harm for today's students to see these before 5th grade.

Our DoD, and the USA in general, used to be much more innovative, creative & imaginative than today!

I have trouble deciding if the DoD sucks more or less, on net, than it did in the 50s or its predecessors did. For whatever flexibility was shown back then vs now (and a willingness to actually fire generals) it's easy to present counterpoints, like the moronic doctrine of tank destroyers and the unworkable "Victory Plan" in WWII.

No matter the details, Ed, the SNAFU series exposes more people more openly to systemic concepts - starting with the SNAFU, SUSFU, FUBAR, TARFU & BOHICA terms themselves.
